Tora, Tora, Tora
Each spring, food lovers across the nation anticipate the harvest of Georgia's Official State Vegetable, the famous Vidalia Onion. The Vidalia community celebrates the occasion with a 4-day festival that's packed with activities for everyone. The Vidalia Onion Festival has won numerous awards over its 39 year history.
The fun starts before the festival officially begins with the Miss Vidalia Onion Pageant, "Tales from the Altamaha," the Vidalia Onion Culinary Extravaganza, and the Carnival.
The festival weekend kicks off Thursday with a children's parade and outdoor movie. Friday features sidewalk sales and a scavenger hunt in the downtown Historic District during the day. Friday night brings the Street Dance and Fireworks.
The excitement builds on Saturday with the Onion Run, the Air Show featuring "Tora, Tora, Tora", Arts & Crafts Festival with the famous Onion Eating Contest, Onion Recipe Contest and public tasting, carnival, and concert. The Air Show, carnival and arts & crafts continue on Sunday. But this is only a taste! Come to Vidalia to experience the "whole onion."
